Roll-off containers for University Place homes and jobsites

University Place sits directly west of Tacoma on the bluff above Chambers Bay, close enough that our trucks are there in fifteen minutes. UP is largely a 1950s through 1970s suburb that incorporated in 1995, and the work reflects that: kitchen and bath remodels in ramblers nobody has touched since they were built, hot tub and deck removals, and long-overdue garage and crawlspace cleanouts. Sound-view lots along the western edge bring landscape jobs, since blackberry and laurel grow back across a view every few years. Chambers Bay draws visitors, but for us the golf course mostly means traffic on Grandview Drive during tournaments. Driveways here tend to be generous, which makes placement simple.

What we know about working in University Place

The bulk of the housing went up between 1955 and 1975: ramblers, split-entries and daylight basements stepping down the slope toward the water. Newer infill clusters near the Town Center along Bridgeport Way, and Day Island is its own world of tight waterfront lots reached by a single causeway. Curtis High School and the school district anchor community life, and Chambers Creek Regional Park has pulled new development along the bluff. Slopes matter here. Homes below Grandview Drive sit on steep driveways that turn slick in a wet December, and daylight basements take on water when gutters clog with fir needles. Cedar shake roofs from the seventies still show up and tear off heavy. The Curran Apple Orchard and mature street trees mean plenty of green waste in spring and fall.

Getting a truck to you

From Stewart Street we take SR-16 west off I-5, exit at Bridgeport Way and drop south into UP, usually under twenty minutes. The causeway onto Day Island is one lane each way with no room to stage, so those deliveries get a set appointment. Below Grandview Drive the driveways pitch hard toward the water, and during a wet stretch we may ask to place at the top instead.

Routes we run: SR-16, Bridgeport Way W, Cirque Drive W, 67th Avenue W.

Permits, streets and placement in University Place

On a private driveway in University Place you generally do not need a municipal permit. Placement in the public street or right-of-way is a different matter and normally requires approval — from the borough or township where the road is locally maintained, or from WSDOT where it is a state route. Every municipality in Pierce County runs its own form and its own lead time, and older streets here often have no off-street parking at all, so plan the permit before you plan the delivery. It is a ten-minute call that saves a week.

Our permit and placement guide walks through the whole process, and PSCAA publishes the Covered Device Recycling Act rules and the other statewide disposal restrictions that apply to every load we haul out of University Place. County recycling and household hazardous waste dates are published by Pierce County.

Dumpster Rental in University Place — FAQs

Can you deliver to a Day Island address?

Yes, but it takes planning. The causeway is narrow, the island streets are tight, and many lots have almost no driveway apron. We send the smallest container that will do the job, schedule off-peak so we are not blocking the only way in or out, and ask that vehicles be moved before we arrive. Some waterfront lots need a street placement approval as well.

What is the best way to handle a cedar shake roof removal here?

Old cedar shake is bulky and, once it has soaked up a Puget Sound winter, far heavier than it looks. Plan on a container rated for roofing rather than a large light-debris box, and keep the felt, skip sheathing and nails with the shake instead of mixing in siding or drywall. If the shake sits over an older layer, tell us so we size for two layers.

Do you handle green waste from blackberry and laurel clearing?

We do, and University Place generates a lot of it. Himalayan blackberry canes and laurel hedge trimmings compress poorly, so a clearing job fills volume faster than owners expect. Keep it as clean green waste with no dirt, root balls or rock and it stays a straightforward load. Cut long canes down to manageable lengths so the container packs instead of bridging across the middle.

How quickly can you deliver a dumpster to University Place?

University Place is about 7 miles west of Tacoma, so it is a routine run for us. Same-day delivery is usually possible if you call before about 11am, and next morning otherwise. Storm weeks and the spring remodeling peak can stretch that, and we will tell you honestly when you call.

Do you charge extra to deliver to University Place?

No. University Place sits inside our standard service area and the flat rate is the same as it is in Tacoma. Delivery, pickup, your rental window and disposal up to the agreed tonnage are all included in the number we quote you.

What size dumpster do most University Place customers take?

A 20 yard is the most common by a wide margin — it suits kitchen guts, multi-room renovations and three-bedroom house cleanouts. But if you are stripping plaster and lath out of a pre-war house, or moving coal-era brick, stone or concrete, size DOWN to a 10 yard heavy container and take two hauls — that material hits the weight limit long before it fills the box.
