The dumpster company Tacoma calls back
Most people renting a dumpster are already having a stressful week. The kitchen is in pieces, the roof is half off, or a family member has passed and there is a house full of forty years to sort out. The last thing anyone needs is a hauler who quotes one price, invoices another, and drops a container across the mailbox.
We started TCA Dumpster Rental in 2012 with one truck and one rule: tell people the truth about what it costs and show up when we said we would. 14 years later that has not changed. Grant Sivertsen still answers the phone most mornings, and our drivers still walk the drop before they back in.
We run out of 1820 Stewart St in the Dome District, minutes from the tideflats, which means we are not routing a truck down from Seattle or up from Olympia when you need a container today. What makes hauling in Tacoma different
Rain is a weight problem
From October to May an uncovered container drinks. Saturated carpet, drywall, insulation, soil and green waste can push a load that was comfortably inside allowance when it went in straight into overage by collection day. Tarping here is not tidiness, it is money — we tarp, and we will tell you to as well. It is the single biggest difference between this market and a dry one.
Alleys, bluffs and narrow lots
The older North Slope, Proctor, Hilltop and Stadium District grid was laid out before anyone imagined a roll-off truck. Narrow lots, short driveways and rear-alley access are the norm, and the bluff streets near Old Town and Ruston Way are steep enough that a loaded container has no business sitting on them. Moss is why roofs fail here
Shaded north-facing slopes under Douglas fir grow moss year round, and it lifts shingles, holds water against the deck and strips granules until the mat shows. Cedar shake on older Tacoma and Gig Harbor homes is heavier again, and wet tear-off debris heavier still. Survey before you scrape
Washington is stricter than most states. The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency requires a good-faith asbestos survey by an AHERA-certified inspector before renovation or demolition that could disturb asbestos, with notification and a waiting period, and most Pierce County demolition permits are gated on it. Popcorn ceilings, 9x9 tile and vermiculite are the usual positives. We cannot take asbestos in any container — read the survey guide first.

Straight talk from Tacoma and the South Puget Sound
Moss had eaten the north slope of our roof and the tear-off came off wetter and heavier than anyone expected. Grant told me on the phone to take the 15 and swap it rather than order a 30. He was right, and the number he quoted was the number I paid.
1926 bungalow, popcorn ceilings, and I had no idea Washington required a survey before you touch them. TCA flagged it before they would deliver and told me to get an inspection first. It came back positive. That phone call saved me from a genuinely expensive mistake.
Alley drop behind a narrow lot on the North End, which two other outfits told me was impossible. Their driver walked it, moved a bin, and put the container exactly where I asked. Gone the morning I called.
We had about forty feet of blackberry along the back fence and a laurel hedge that had turned into a wall. Everyone underestimates how much a wet thicket weighs. They sized it properly, swapped it once, and never once made it my problem.

How fast can you deliver a dumpster in Tacoma?
Most of the time, same day if you call before about 11am, and next morning otherwise. We run our own trucks out of 1820 Stewart St in Tacoma, so we are not waiting on a dispatcher two counties away. During storm cleanup and peak spring remodeling weeks it can stretch to 48 hours, and we will tell you honestly when you call.
What does a flat rate actually include?
Delivery, pickup, an agreed rental period and a set tonnage allowance with disposal included. No fuel surcharge, no environmental fee, no admin fee. The only way the number changes is if you go over the weight allowance or keep the container longer than agreed, and we tell you both limits before we deliver.
Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?
No. Plenty of our customers text us a photo of where they want it and go to work. All we need is clear access, a spot free of cars and low branches, and permission to be on the property. If access is tight or gated, tell us when you book and we will schedule accordingly.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
We put protection boards under the wheels and rails on every residential delivery, which spreads the load instead of concentrating it on four small contact patches. The Puget Sound complication is water: from October to May the ground is saturated, so lawns, gravel drives and soft shoulders rut badly under a loaded truck, and moss-slick concrete adds its own problem. Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Tacoma?
On your own driveway or private property, generally no. In the public street or right-of-way you usually do, and in the city that is a City of Tacoma right-of-way use permit — or WSDOT on a state route like SR-7 or SR-99. Lakewood, Puyallup, University Place, Fife, Gig Harbor and unincorporated Pierce County each run their own process, and HOAs on South Hill, Bonney Lake and in DuPont add rules on top. What can I not put in the dumpster?
Wet paint, solvents, motor oil, fuel, pesticides, asbestos, propane and other pressurised cylinders, batteries, medical waste, tires, and freon-containing appliances. Washington also bans electronics such as televisions and computers from landfill disposal. Everything else on a normal cleanout or renovation is fine — when in doubt, ask us before it goes in.
